The idea of a new constitution has divided Poland: 50.7% against its amendment

More than half of Poles are against changing the constitution — this was shown by a new IBRiS survey for “Rzeczpospolita”. However, among voters, there is one group that views this idea quite differently.

At the beginning of May, President Karol Nawrocki announced the start of work on a “new generation constitution” and created a special council that is supposed to prepare new solutions.

What do Poles think about the new constitution?

As reported by “Rzeczpospolita”, respondents were asked whether Poland needs a new basic constitution. Overall, 41.5% of survey participants expressed support for this idea, while 50.7% were against it.

Fully supporting the new constitution are 24.9% of respondents, while another 16.6% answered “rather yes”. Opponents of the changes make up 22.2% of respondents, and the largest group — 28.5% — answered with a categorical “no”. In total, opponents of the new constitution outnumber supporters.

Who wants change the most?

The most noticeable divide is among people with different political views. Among opposition voters, 71% support changing the constitution, while in the ruling coalition’s electorate, 74% are against it.

Among respondents without clear political sympathies, the picture is different: 14% would like a new constitution, while 68% see no need for it.

The IBRiS survey was conducted on May 8-9, 2026, using the CATI method with a sample of 1,067 people.
