Tom Hanks has launched a new 20-part documentary project «World War II with Tom Hanks,» which is already airing on the HISTORY Channel. The first episode is entirely dedicated to Poland and Gdańsk, where the war that became a global conflict began in September 1939.
The series starts with the events of September 1, 1939, and shows the rapid development of the war — from the invasion of Poland to the first large-scale battles in Europe. Special attention is given to the fates of civilians and military actions on Polish territory.
The documentary project consists of 20 episodes that are released weekly. Each episode focuses on individual key events of the war — from the beginning of the conflict to the surrender of Germany and Japan.
The series uses archival footage, reenactments, and commentary from historians. According to the HISTORY Channel, the aim of the project is to present World War II as «the most extensive and pivotal event in human history» and to showcase it through modern historical research.
Tom Hanks has previously participated in major projects about World War II, which has solidified his reputation as one of the most well-known popularizers of the history of this period in film and television.
