A new wave of extreme heat is sweeping into Poland, which, according to meteorologists, could become one of the strongest in the last hundred years. In Trójmiasto, the air temperature will noticeably rise in the coming days, with the peak expected over the weekend.
Currently, Gdańsk is experiencing comfortable summer weather — around 24°C during the day. However, starting from Wednesday to Thursday, a flow of hot air from the southwest of Europe, where temperatures are currently exceeding 40°C, will begin.
According to the forecast, on Saturday, the temperature in Gdańsk will rise to 33°C, and on Sunday it will reach 35°C, while at night the temperature will remain high — around 20–25°C. The sky is expected to be almost cloudless, with no precipitation in sight.
For Trójmiasto, this is significantly above the norm for the end of June — usually, at this time, temperatures hover around 22–24°C during the day.
The heat will hit hardest in the southwest of the country — there, in the Lubusz Voivodeship and Lower Silesia, thermometers are expected to rise to 35–40°C, approaching Poland’s absolute record (40.2°C, recorded in 1921). The coast, including Gdańsk, will warm up noticeably less than the southwest of the country, but still significantly above the usual for this time of year.
What is important to remember during hot days
During such temperatures, it is advisable to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours (from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM), drink more water, never leave children and pets in cars even for a short time, and check on elderly neighbors and relatives — they are particularly vulnerable to overheating.
