The center of Gdynia has been added to the UNESCO list. Poland now has 18 such sites

The modernist center of Gdynia has officially been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision was made during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan (South Korea). Now, there are 18 UNESCO sites in Poland

The area of nearly 88 hectares in the center of Gdynia has been placed under the protection of UNESCO. Experts noted the unique modernist architecture and well-preserved urban layout created during the period between the First and Second World Wars.

The decision was made in the year of the 100th anniversary of Gdynia receiving city rights. The preparation of the application took more than two years: specialists conducted research and developed rules for the protection of historical buildings.

The UNESCO World Heritage List includes sites of exceptional cultural or natural value. Currently, it contains around 1250 locations worldwide
