From September 1, 2026, a significant increase in fuel prices is expected in Poland. This is related to the expiration of the CPN package, which temporarily capped prices and reduced the VAT rate on gasoline and diesel to 8%.
Currently, the maximum price of a liter of Pb95 gasoline is 6.64 zlotys, Pb98 is 7.46 zlotys, and diesel is 7.31 zlotys. Starting from September 1, 2023, the VAT rate on these types of fuel will increase again to 23%, which will lead to a price increase of 60–90 groszy per liter.
The CPN package was reintroduced on August 17, 2026, and set maximum fuel prices calculated using a special formula. Sellers exceeding these limits could face fines of up to 1 million zlotys. This is not the first version of the package: its initial implementation began in late March 2023 due to rising oil prices amid an international conflict.
The total revenue from the CPN package during its duration amounted to approximately 4.7 billion zlotys. The reduction of the VAT rate in August cost the budget 495 million zlotys
With the end of the CPN package, it is expected that fuel prices may significantly affect the economy and the daily lives of citizens
