An open meeting will be held in Sopot with Andrzej Poczobut — a journalist and one of the most well-known Belarusian political prisoners. He will talk about the years spent in a Belarusian prison, his release, and life after returning to freedom.
Everyone is invited to the meeting. Participants will not only be able to listen to Pocobut but also ask him questions.
Andrzej Poczobut worked as a journalist for many years, writing about events in Belarus, the history of the country, and the life of the Polish minority. He was also a correspondent for the Polish Gazeta Wyborcza.
In March 2021, the Belarusian authorities arrested a journalist. In February 2023, the Grodno Regional Court sentenced him to eight years in prison. Pochobut was found guilty on politically motivated charges.
The journalist refused to ask Alexander Lukashenko for clemency and spent more than five years in detention
In April 2026, Pochobut was released as part of agreements between Belarus and the USA with the involvement of Poland and other parties. After his release, he returned to Poland and began to publicly share his experiences during imprisonment.

Now residents of Sopot will be able to meet with the journalist. The conversation will focus on his personal story, years of imprisonment, release, as well as the situation in Belarus and the fate of those who remain behind bars for political reasons.
