Gdynia plans to build a cable car to the northern districts of the city. The line is expected to connect the center of Gdynia with the districts of Oksywie, Obłuże, Pogórze, and Babie Doły. The authorities hope that the cable car will reduce travel time and help avoid traffic jams on the Kwiatkowski viaduct and Janka Wiśniewskiego street
A key stage is planned for the second half of 2026: 1.1 million zlotys have been allocated for the concept. It will determine the route, the location of supports and stations, and prepare the project for tender under the «design and build» scheme.
The project requires not only public consultations. The route may pass over port areas. This raises concerns — both from a practical standpoint and regarding safety issues.
Experts note that such a line could allow for monitoring the strategic infrastructure of the port, and in extreme cases — create risks of sabotage.
If the cable car is built, it will not only simplify movement around the city but also become a new tourist attraction in Gdynia.
