In Poland, the mechanism for controlling fuel prices will be extended until the end of May — one of the key anti-crisis measures of the government, announced Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański
Until May 15, the VAT rate on gasoline and diesel has been reduced from 23% to 8%, and the excise tax has been cut to the minimum allowable level in the EU: 29 groszy per liter of gasoline and 28 groszy per liter of diesel. Amendments to the excise law adopted at the end of March allow for flexible management of these rates — they can be temporarily reduced by individual regulations until June 30.

Minister energii Miloš Motyka zauważył, że rząd rozważa możliwość utrzymania mechanizmu przynajmniej przez kolejne dwa tygodnie
According to him, the authorities aim to maintain the flexibility of the tool, even despite the increasing burden on the budget. The reduction of VAT and excise taxes is costly for the state; however, the government considers these measures an important way to curb inflation
Meanwhile, against the backdrop of rising energy prices caused by the tense situation in the Middle East, new steps are being discussed. In particular, there is talk of introducing a tax on the excess profits of energy companies. As Motyka reported, the corresponding draft law is already being developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance.
Back in late April, the Minister of Finance estimated the potential revenue from such a tax at more than 4 billion zlotys. Among the companies that may fall under the new levy is Orlen.
