Tricity bets on bicycles: Mevo expands, and Google Maps updates routes

Using city bikes in Tricity will soon become even more convenient — the number of Mevo stations will increase in Gdynia. ZTM will also improve bike navigation in Google Maps for Gdańsk.

This summer, 50 new Mevo stations will appear in Gdynia. However, the number of bikes available in the city will remain unchanged.

— They will be distributed more or less evenly throughout the city, but where there have been fewer so far, the improvement will be particularly noticeable. In particular, I mean the Chwarzno-Wiczlino area, where we had only four Mevo stations. Here, we can expect even a doubling of their number, — said city councilor Łukasz Piesiewicz.

Additionally, ZTM will improve bike navigation in Google Maps for Gdańsk. The app will gradually incorporate up-to-date data on bike infrastructure, routes, and available connections for trips.

The updates were announced by the ZTM active mobility department on their Facebook profile Rowerowy Gdańsk. They acknowledge that until now, bike navigation in Google in the city often caused problems — routes could go through stairs, ignore main bike paths, or not account for new infrastructure.

ZTM encourages users to test the updated routes, warning that errors are still possible. For example, part of the infrastructure is still missing on the map, including the eco-path along Armii Krajowej Avenue.

The next step will be the integration with the city bike rental system MEVO. In the future, Google Maps will feature information about stations and the real-time availability of bikes.
