The first foreign visit of the new Prime Minister of Hungary, P\u00e9ter Madl, began in Poland. He previously visited Krak\u00f3w and held official intergovernmental talks in Warsaw. In Gda\u0144sk, he took a stroll through the city center with Donald Tusk and met with residents.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Gda\u0144sk, the Hungarian leader met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and spoke with residents during a walk along the Royal Route. At the Artus Court, the delegation was welcomed by the Mayor of Gda\u0144sk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the steps of the Artus Court, she stated:
\u2014 Together with the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, who is primarily a Gda\u0144sk resident, we wholeheartedly welcome the democratic leader \u2014 a person who has proven that the will of the people, if fought for persistently, can overcome even the greatest evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While presenting the Hungarian Prime Minister with a graphic featuring the «Solidarity» logo by Jerzy Janiszewski, Dulkiewicz added:
\u2014 I hope this symbol will find a place not only in your office but, above all, in your heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P\u00e9ter Madl addressed the crowd gathered at the Artus Court:
\u2014 Good day, residents of Gda\u0144sk. It is a great honor for me to be here with you. This is an important moment \u2014 my first foreign visit as Prime Minister. It was a dream I spoke about during the two-year election campaign \u2014 to come to Poland. I promised that if I gained the trust of the Hungarian people, I would, with the consent of the Polish government, make my first official visit here. I am sincerely grateful for this opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized the special significance of Gda\u0144sk for Europe:
\u2014 This is a unique place not only for Poland but for all of Europe. World War II began here, «Solidarity» was born here, communism fell here, and it is here that your Prime Minister was born, \u2014 he noted. \u2014 I am glad to be here on such a beautiful day. I will do everything possible \u2014 and I am confident that the Hungarian people will support me \u2014 to strengthen Polish-Hungarian friendship. I was deeply moved by my trip to Krak\u00f3w, where I visited the cathedral, and here in Gda\u0144sk, I also feel strong emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Long live Polish-Hungarian friendship! Thank you, \u2014 he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 «Lengyel, magyar, k\u00e9t unoka\u00f6ccse,» \u2014 replied Donald Tusk in Hungarian. \u2014 When our guest and I walked along D\u0142uga Street, I told him that he was in the most beautiful place on earth. At first, he didn’t believe it, but thanks to you \u2014 after all, cities are made by people \u2014 he changed his mind. Everything best in Europe began in Gda\u0144sk, and recently \u2014 in Hungary as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister of Poland also recounted that during a meeting at the Uphagen House, Lech Wa\u0142\u0119sa reminded him of the words he spoke during the struggle against the system:
