A unique wooden pavilion has been installed in Plac Kaszubski in the center of Gdynia, which immediately caught the attention of residents. Many mistook it for a new food or drink kiosk, but in fact, it is a photoplasticon \u2014 an interactive exhibition that allows visitors to see archival Gdynia in 3D format<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Journey into the History of Gdynia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Until August 30<\/strong>, residents and tourists can visit the unusual structure for free and learn about the city’s history through stereoscopic photographs. The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Gdynia and literally offers a chance to «travel» back in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside the photoplasticon, there are about 200 archival photographs<\/strong> provided by the National Digital Archive of Poland and the State Archive in Gda\u0144sk (Gdynia branch). Visitors will see how the city port was built, how Gdynia developed, and what everyday life was like for its residents decades ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photographs underwent digital processing and were transformed into three-dimensional collages, making the images look as realistic as possible. The project was prepared by the Fundacja Koncept Kultura<\/strong> as part of the initiative Archiwalny Fotoplastikon Online<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is photoplasticon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The unusual pavilion is made of wood and steel. Its height is 2.59 meters<\/strong>, diameter is about 2.3 meters<\/strong>, and weight is approximately 500 kilograms<\/strong>. The structure is designed to operate at any time of the year: in summer, it is automatically ventilated, and in winter, it is equipped with a heating system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, there are five stereoscopic viewing spots<\/strong>, allowing several people to view the exhibition at the same time. Special seating is provided for children and shorter visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
