On the stretch of beach between Stogami and Górkami Zachodnimi in Gdańsk, there has been an informal area where nudists relax for many years. Despite this, the city emphasizes that this place does not have official status. Residents regularly complain about the lack of signs marking the boundaries of the area.
Previously, there were indeed signs indicating the naturist zone in this area. They were removed, after which some beachgoers, unaware of the old boundaries, began using the same stretch of beach.
As a result, according to local residents, the area has gradually expanded and now occupies almost the entire stretch between Stogami and Górkami Zachodnimi.
The city does not explain why the signs were removed. According to media reports, this could be related to the fact that there is no official status for nudist beaches in Poland; another version is that it is connected to theft and vandalism.
In Poland, there is neither a complete ban on naturism nor its official approval. Everything is regulated by general norms regarding order and public morality. However, the practice is such that sunbathing naked is only allowed in designated areas. Outside of these, it may be considered a violation of order and could result in a fine or other sanctions.
For «indecent behavior» on the beach, a fine of 50 to 100 zlotys may be imposed. However, in this area, there have been almost no penalties in recent years: only one fine has been issued, and another person received a warning.
