The party of Grzegorz Braun, known for its sharp anti-Ukrainian, anti-American, and anti-European stance, participated in the celebration of Russia Day at the Russian embassy in Warsaw, effectively confirming its leader's pro-Russian sympathies
The director of the parliamentary group "Konfederacja Korony Polskiej," Piotr Heszyn, published photos from the reception on X and a declaration text in which the party describes Russia's war against Ukraine not as a one-sided conflict, but largely as a consequence of Western actions, and expresses a desire for "normalization" of relations with Moscow.
In the photos from the event, besides Heszyn, were the Russian ambassador Grigoriy Mikhno, who invited the politician, and Mateusz Piskorski, a former MP and leader of the marginal pro-Russian party Zmiana, accused of espionage for Russia. Later, Heszyn confirmed to the publication Interia that the visit had been pre-approved by Braun himself.
Who is Grzegorz Braun
Braun, the founder and chairman of «Konfederacja Korony Polskiej,» a party characterized as ultra-nationalist and traditionalist, has not been openly considered a pro-Russian politician until now. Nevertheless, he places the blame for the war in Ukraine on the USA and NATO and claims that the recent violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones was staged by Ukraine and Poland themselves, and in March 2026, he visited the Iranian embassy to sign the condolence book for the country’s slain leader.
At the same time, Braun has a long history of anti-Semitic scandals: he extinguished Hanukkah candles in the Sejm building, for which he is currently on trial, and referred to the gas chambers in Auschwitz as fake.
In the presidential elections of 2025, he received 6.34% of the votes in the first round, after which he was removed from the leadership of «Konfederacja,» and his party was excluded from this bloc.
