Starting from September 1, 2026, Polish students and their parents can expect several important changes: phones will be banned, there will be less homework, and the rules for assessing behavior and conducting exams will change. The Ministry of Education of Poland has presented 12 changes aimed at improving the educational process.
One of the key innovations is the ban on the use of mobile phones in primary classes. Also, from the new school year, health education will be mandatory, and healthy meals will start to be offered in school cafeterias
The Minister of Education of Poland, Barbara Nowacka, signed a new regulation on August 20. One of the significant changes is the cancellation of the possibility of assigning practical work for homework for grades IV-VIII. Written assignments will now be intended only for reinforcing knowledge, and teachers are required to provide feedback on completed work.
Additionally, students will be able to earn extra points for completing optional written assignments, if this is specified in the school charter. The updated rules also pertain to behavior grades, which take into account respect for classmates and teachers, adherence to norms both in and out of school, as well as the use of cultured language.
The changes will affect not only primary schools but also secondary and vocational schools. Students who take driving courses outside of school will be able to be exempted from driving classes if they provide the appropriate certificate.
Exams will be conducted only in person, with a ban on the use of mobile phones, except for health monitoring applications. A minimum time has been set for the exams: 30 minutes for grades I-III, 45 minutes for IV-VIII, and 60 minutes for secondary schools. Exam results must be communicated to students no later than the following day, and no more than three exams can be taken in one day.
Most of the changes will come into effect at the beginning of the new school year, except for the rules regarding exams, which will take effect on September 1, 2027
These innovations are aimed at improving the educational process and creating a more comfortable atmosphere for students in Polish schools
