In Sopot, activists protested against «SAFE» outside the Prime Minister’s house — Tusk commented

In Sopot, a protest against the EU SAFE program took place outside Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s house, with around 50 participants. On social media, the Prime Minister called the picket at his home «the height of courage,» noting that it occurred on a playground and in his absence.

“A picket on a playground near my childhood home, while I am not there, is the height of bravery. Nawrocki and Kaczyński are probably proud of the heroic deeds of their supporters,” Tusk commented

Among the protest participants was PiS MP Dorota Arciszewska-Mielewczyk. She criticized the government’s plans, stating that Poland should not depend on the decisions of foreign officials, and that the burden of repaying loans will ultimately fall on future generations.

Despite the protests, a historic agreement under the SAFE program is scheduled to be signed today (May 8). Poland will become the first of 19 EU countries to gain access to preferential loans amounting to up to 43.7 billion euros. These funds will be directed towards the urgent rearmament of the army and the development of the defense industry.

The SAFE program was created to rapidly enhance Europe’s defense capabilities and involves the swift conclusion of contracts for the procurement of armaments. In Poland, around 40 such agreements are planned to be signed in May alone, which should significantly accelerate the modernization of the Armed Forces.
