The historic Hala Targowa in the center of Gdańsk will soon reopen its doors. After a major renovation, one of the city's most recognizable buildings will take on a new function — instead of a traditional market, it will feature a modern space that combines gastronomy, commerce, and urban culture
The opening of the renovated Hala Targowa is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11 AM
After the reconstruction is completed, Hala Targowa will operate in the format of a modern food hall — a space where visitors can try dishes from various cuisines of the world, buy quality products, and spend time in an urban atmosphere
The updated building will feature:
- restaurants and cafes;
- gastronomic stands;
- bars;
- stores with groceries and delicacies;
- places for cultural events and city meetings.
The main idea of the project is to preserve the historical character of the building while simultaneously creating a modern space that meets the current needs of Gdańsk residents
Over 120 years of history
The building of Hala Targowa was opened in 1896 and for many decades was one of the most important trading places in the city.
The property is located in the area of Śródmieście, near the historic center of Gdańsk. Due to its architecture and historical significance, the building has been preserved and is today considered one of the important elements of the city’s identity.
During the reconstruction, specialists paid special attention to preserving the original elements of the building. The work was carried out in such a way as to connect the historical heritage of the site with its new function
Archaeological finds during the reconstruction
During the work at Hala Targowa, traces of an earlier history of this part of the city were discovered. Archaeologists found remnants of old structures that helped to better understand the development of the area.
