A man wanted to lie about his ex-partner’s flight and reported a «bomb» at Gdańsk airport — he now faces 8 years

An alarm was declared at Gdańsk Airport following a call from a 67-year-old resident of Malbork. He reported that his former partner, who was supposed to fly abroad, allegedly had an explosive device in her backpack. Security services immediately began an inspection, but it soon turned out that the message was false

The woman was removed from the flight for a thorough check. Specialists searched her backpack and other luggage, as well as verified the information received from the caller. No explosives or other dangerous items were found. After the inspection was completed, the passenger was allowed to continue her trip.

The police quickly identified the owner of the number from which the false call was made. It turned out to be a 67-year-old resident of Malbork. The man was detained and taken to the Gdańsk-Oliwa district prosecutor's office

The prosecutor charged him with knowingly making a false threat. Until the trial, preventive measures have been imposed on the suspect — police supervision and bail of 1000 zlotys.

In Poland, knowingly making a false bomb threat or other threat can result in a penalty of up to 8 years in prison
