On Thursday, September 3rd, Gdańsk will host the final of the Elnaft European 250cc Pairs Speedway Championship. The best young speedway riders from Europe will meet at the Zbigniewa Podleckiego Stadium, and the Polish team will try to win the championship for the fifth consecutive time. Admission to the event is free.
The final of the European Speedway Championship for pairs in the 250 cc class will take place on the Gdańsk track on September 3rd. The competition will start at 5:00 PM, and six teams will compete for the medals: Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, as well as a combined team from Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
Initially, there were supposed to be more participants, but the Romanian team withdrew from the competition at the last moment
Poland — the main favorite of the tournament
The white-and-reds are approaching the competition as the reigning European champions. Moreover, Polish riders have won this tournament in all previous editions — in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Now the team has the opportunity to secure their fifth consecutive title.
Skład Polski również wygląda bardzo poważnie
The main candidate for the leadership role will be Franciszek Szczyrba. In June, he won the individual SGP3 World Championship in the 250 cc class in Wrocław, and then confirmed his status as one of the strongest juniors in Europe. In the Slovak town of Žarnovica, Szczyrba became the individual European champion, scoring the maximum 15 points.
Drugim głównym zawodnikiem polskiej drużyny będzie Dawid Oscenda. W 2025 roku był jednym z autorów zwycięstwa Polski w Mistrzostwach Europy w parach, a rok wcześniej zdobył tytuł indywidualnego wicemistrza Europy.
Damian Bełtowski jest wymieniony jako rezerwowy, który w tym sezonie zajął czwarte miejsce w finale indywidualnych mistrzostw Europy w Žarnovice.
“We have a very strong team, but in competitions, individual achievements are not enough. Here, cooperation, smart tactics, and every point scored are important. We want to defend the title and showcase the potential of Polish youth speedway,” says the coach of the Polish national team Robert Kościecha.
Where future stars transition to the 500 cc class
Klasa 250 cc jest jednym z najważniejszych etapów w przygotowaniach młodych żużlowców przed przejściem na mocniejsze motocykle z silnikami 500 cc.
In this category, athletes aged 13 to 16 years compete. The races take place on full-size speedway tracks, and each heat consists of four laps.
Therefore, the tournament in Gdańsk is not just a competition for European medals. For fans, it is an opportunity to see athletes who may move to a new level in the coming years and start competing in the largest classic speedway events
