On the night of June 13, a conflict involving two Ukrainian citizens occurred on the beach in the Brzeźno area of Gdańsk. 19-year-old Olesya claims that it all started after a Ukrainian song played from her phone. As a result, the girl was hit and then a glass bottle was thrown at her. The police believe that the attack may have been related to the victims’ national identity.
«Get the hell out to Ukraine»
Olesya came to the beach with an acquaintance. When the girl went to the restroom, three men and a woman approached her.
According to Olesia, they started to insult her because of her Ukrainian origin and demanded that she leave for Ukraine. The girl returned to her acquaintance and suggested leaving the beach to avoid conflict.
However, the argument continued at the entrance to the beach. According to the girl, one of the women threatened her with death and then kicked her.
Three beat up a man
After that, the conflict escalated into a fight. One of the men left, but the other two, along with a woman, began to beat up Olesia’s acquaintance.
A man fell to the ground, but the attackers continued to kick him. Olesya tried to help and started recording the incident on her phone to capture the faces of the attackers.
According to the police, both Ukrainians were injured. Their condition did not require treatment for longer than seven days.
A bottle broke on the head
The most serious incident occurred near the tram stop on Zdrojowa Street. When the victims tried to leave, a glass bottle was thrown at Olesya.
A bottle hit the girl in the head and broke. A shard remained in the wound.
Olesia went to the hospital, where her wound was cleaned and stitches were applied. According to medical documents, the shard penetrated approximately 7–8 millimeters.
The wound has now healed.
«This is not the first such case»
Olesya has been living in Gdańsk for four years. According to her, during this time she has faced aggression due to her background more than once.
“I no longer know how to live peacefully here if someone can say or do something like that at any moment,” the girl said.
She believes that people should not be judged by their nationality or appearance
The police are looking for four people
The police have been investigating the attack since June. At the end of August, law enforcement published photographs of four individuals wanted in connection with this case. These are three men and a woman.
Policja nadal weryfikuje otrzymane informacje i ustala tożsamość podejrzanych.
Anyone who can help identify the wanted individuals or knows their whereabouts is asked to contact the Komisariat Policji VI w Gdańsku at 47 741 17 22.
