New 3D scanners have been put into operation at Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, changing the passenger screening procedure. The main innovation is that passengers passing through the new scanners can carry up to 2 liters of liquids in their hand luggage. Additionally, there is no longer a need to remove laptops and other electronics from bags, which speeds up the screening process and reduces queues.
However, the new rules do not apply at all checkpoints. The airport continues to use the old scanners, where the previous restrictions remain: liquids up to 100 ml in packaging and mandatory removal of electronics.
According to the airport, the new devices increase capacity — about 250 passengers per hour compared to approximately 180 with the old equipment. The staff is currently undergoing training, so the operation of the new lines may be slower than usual.
The airport emphasizes that not all passengers will be able to use the new scanners yet due to their limited number. During peak hours, some travelers are still directed to standard screening.
It is also reported that the airport plans to expand the system and purchase additional 3D scanners. At the same time, the possibility of easing the rules at the old control lines is being tested — in the future, this may apply to all passengers.
