Military units located in the Kaliningrad region are, according to experts, a source of regular interference and signal spoofing of GPS/GNSS in the Baltic Sea region and northern Poland. Drone operators, vehicle rental services, and users of urban systems such as MEVO bikes and public transport have long complained about these disruptions.
According to specialists, in recent years, cases of signal jamming have been increasingly reported in Pomerania. This leads to navigation failures and malfunctions in digital systems: transport «disappears» from maps, drones go out of control, and sometimes objects are displayed in the sea or in the territory of the Kaliningrad region.
The problem also affects aviation, where GPS is used for precise positioning and safe landings, especially in challenging conditions. Moreover, GPS signals are global in nature, making them critically important for international navigation.
In May 2026, Blue Dot Solutions began monitoring the quality of GPS/GNSS in Gdańsk. Within a month of operation, the system recorded at least 12 serious incidents, including prolonged episodes of interference and anomalous signals. In one case, researchers noted an atypical signal amplification that could have affected an international flight.
Experts emphasize that such interferences are becoming regular and are harder to accurately identify, which is why an expansion of the monitoring network in the region is planned.
