Gdańsk joins the cities in Poland where the practice of recognizing same-sex marriages concluded in European Union countries is beginning. Similar decisions have already been implemented in Warsaw and Wrocław
Urząd Stanu Cywilnego w Gdańsku otrzymał dwa wnioski o transkrypcję małżeństw jednopłciowych zawartych w innych krajach UE. Pierwszy został złożony pod koniec kwietnia, a drugi 18 maja.
The basis for such actions was a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union issued at the end of last year. According to the ruling, EU member states are required to recognize same-sex marriages if they were legally concluded in any other country of the union. As a result, Polish courts have begun to gradually implement this decision in practice
In the near future, a marriage act transcription system adapted for LGBT+ couples should be operational in Gdańsk
However, Poland currently lacks separate forms for registering same-sex marriages. Data is still entered in the standard fields "man" and "woman." These technical and legal limitations are expected to be changed after the adoption of new state regulations
