Nowy system kontroli średniej prędkości na obwodnicy Trójmiasta już przynosi pierwsze rezultaty. W drugiej połowie czerwca kamery na trasie S6 zarejestrowały ponad 300 przypadków przekroczenia prędkości.
The first section — Gdańsk Owczarnia – Lotnisko — was launched on June 18. By the end of the month, the system recorded 282 violations. The most serious case occurred on June 25: a Kia driver passed the section at an average speed of 195 km/h with a permitted limit of 120 km/h. He exceeded the limit by 75 km/h.
The second section — Gdańsk Karczemki – Szadółki — started operation on June 29. In the first two days, the cameras recorded 30 violations. The record holder was a Volvo driver who was traveling at a speed of 159 km/h, exceeding the limit by 39 km/h.
Unlike regular radars, the new system does not measure the speed of a vehicle at a single point. It calculates the average speed over the entire monitored section. Cameras record the time of entry and exit of the vehicle, and then the system automatically determines whether the driver managed to cover the distance faster than the allowed limit.

On the bypass road of Trójmiasto, there is a speed limit of 120 km/h for passenger cars, motorcycles, and trucks up to 3.5 tons. For buses, vehicles with trailers, and heavier trucks, the limit is 80 km/h.
Initially, the General Inspectorate of Road Transport in Poland (GITD) planned to establish control at three sections of the bypass road, but they abandoned the segment Chwarzno – Wielki Kack for technical reasons.
