Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska made a historic breakthrough at Roland Garros, becoming the tournament's runner-up and the first qualifier in the Open Era to reach the women's final at Roland Garros. Amid her sporting success, attention was drawn to Chwalińska's story of financial difficulties during the tournament — she had no money for accommodation.
Maja Chwalińska lost to Mira Andrejeva in the decisive match at Roland Garros, but this result marked a part of a rapid breakthrough for the Polish tennis player: starting the tournament ranked 114th in the WTA rankings, she climbed to 21st place, making a leap of 93 spots
Earlier, after reaching the fourth round, Chwalińska admitted that she was worried about the expenses for her continued stay in Paris. Her words prompted a response from the Polish company Oshee, which announced that it had extended the hotel reservation for the tennis player and her mother so that the athlete could focus on her game.
Her comments after one of the matches also sparked discussion when the 24-year-old tennis player was asked about the financial side of participating in the tournament. Chwalińska humorously replied that she hoped the funds would be sufficient, noting that payments do not come immediately, and jokingly asked for «prayers for her.»
Following this, Oshee — a Polish company and sponsor, including of Iga Świątek — published a post on Instagram stating that it does not make housing recommendations but books it directly. The company wished the athlete good luck and emphasized that it would handle organizational matters so she could concentrate on her game. It was also noted that support extends to her mother.
