Starting July 1, every package from Temu, AliExpress, and Shein will cost 3 euros more. Let's find out why the EU is introducing a new fee and whether we should expect price increases on the platforms themselves
Te platformy cieszą się dużą popularnością w Polsce. W zaledwie jeden rok Polacy zamawiają z nich prawie 100 milionów paczek — to kilka zamówień na każdego mieszkańca kraju.
Why the new fee is being introduced
Previously, packages worth less than 150 euros were not subject to customs duties at all. This rule is now being abolished. From July 1, 2026, to July 1, 2028, a fixed fee of 3 euros will need to be paid for each item in a package (if it costs up to 150 euros)
The Polish tax office explains: some sellers deliberately declared a lower price for items in packages or split one order into several smaller ones to avoid paying duties. The new fee is intended to put an end to this
Will prices increase?
Not necessarily. Large stores have already adapted: they have opened their warehouses right in Europe, for example, Shein — near Wrocław. If the product is shipped from such a warehouse to the EU, the new fee does not apply. Therefore, many packages may simply not fall under the new rules, and prices for consumers will change little.
