In Gdańsk Zoo, the newborn giraffe has been named Cardi — the naming rights were sold for 31,000 zlotys

A young giraffe from the Gdańsk Zoo has been named Cardi. The animal was born in December last year — this is the first giraffe birth in the history of the Gdańsk Zoo. The name was chosen during an auction as part of the Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy.

The right to name the giraffe was won by the company ITCARD, which paid over 31 thousand zlotys for it.

— I am glad that there are companies in Gdańsk that direct funds to charitable purposes and at the same time get the opportunity to name an animal. The last time I saw our little giraffe was in December, shortly after her birth. Now she has noticeably grown, although she is still smaller than her parents, — said the Mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz.

— This name is not accidental. It symbolizes speed, smoothness, and modernity. Cardi’s long neck reminds us that we should always boldly strive further and higher, — noted ITCARD representative Adrianna Necko.

— This is an important event for the zoo and the city. This is the first giraffe born both in our zoo and in Gdańsk, — emphasized the director of the Gdańsk Zoo, Emilia Salah. — We spent 15 months preparing: we arranged the facilities that were to become the maternity ward and prepared the mother in advance for a safe delivery. The giraffe was born naturally, without veterinary intervention.

There are currently three giraffes living in the Gdańsk Zoo. Plans are in place to bring in another male.
