Starting from August 1, 2026, the central electronic patient registration system in Poland will be expanded. Now, it will be possible to schedule an initial appointment with eight additional categories of specialists covered by NFZ insurance
The central e-registration has been operational since the beginning of 2026. So far, it has been possible to register for a mammogram, HPV HR test, and the first appointment with a cardiologist. Starting in August, the system will cover eight more specialties
Which doctors can be booked via e-registration
Starting from August 1, the first appointments will be available with:
- an angiologist or vascular surgeon;
- infectious disease specialist;
- endocrinologist;
- hepatologist — a specialist in liver diseases;
- immunolog — specjalista w dziedzinie chorób układu odpornościowego
- nephrologist;
- neonatologist;
- pulmonologist — a specialist in lung diseases.
This concerns specifically the first visits to these specialists. If a patient is already under a doctor’s care and is scheduling a follow-up appointment, the new rules do not automatically mean that they must switch to central registration.
What will change for patients
The main advantage of the system is that the patient will be able to see available appointment dates at different medical facilities, rather than calling each clinic separately
You can register through the Internetowe Konto Pacjenta (IKP) or the mojeIKP app. You can also manage your appointment there: change the date or cancel your visit. The system also sends reminders about upcoming visits via SMS or email.
At the same time, the usual way of making an appointment is still available. The patient can still call the clinic or visit in person. If a person does not use IKP or mojeIKP, the medical institution can make an appointment for them.
What to do if there are no available dates
In the central system, there is a feature “poczekalnia” — “waiting room”. If there is no suitable time available, the patient can inform the system of their preferences. When a free spot that meets the specified conditions becomes available, the system will be able to automatically suggest or schedule it.
This is especially convenient for people who are willing to travel to another city for an earlier appointment. The central database allows searching for available dates not only in one selected clinic.
At the same time, the electronic registration does not increase the number of doctors and available slots. If a specific region lacks specialists, the system will not solve the queue problem, but it will allow patients to better navigate the available options.
Is a referral still needed?

The new rules primarily concern initial appointments with specialists included in the system.
They want to expand the system even further
The expansion from August 1 is another stage of changes. The authorities plan to gradually include all specialized medical services funded by NFZ in the central e-registration.
According to the plan, by the end of 2027, the system should cover around 40 types of medical services, including all 39 medical specialties.
A six-month transition period is provided for medical institutions — until the end of January 2027. After its expiration, clinics that do not connect to the central e-registration may face financial consequences from the NFZ.
In short, for patients, the main change from August 1 is that more doctors will be available in the unified appointment system, where you can independently search for available dates, including in other cities, and manage your appointment online
