In the center of Gdańsk, "mystery boxes" filled with supposedly returned items from major online platforms are gaining popularity. Journalists bought one for 50 zlotys and checked whether it is indeed a profitable find — or just a random assortment of items
The mystery box shop operates right in the heart of Gdańsk. The seller assures that inside are returned items from customers, including from Amazon and Action. The price is fixed — 50 zlotys per box. The packaging is intentionally sealed in a way that makes it impossible to see the contents before purchase.
The boxes vary in size and weight. Some choose large ones in hopes of finding electronics or something more valuable, while others opt for compact ones. However, the price is the same for all — 50 zlotys. The seller advised customers to «take a medium size.»
The journalists bought one box. Inside was a mix of items from completely different categories:
— a metal water bottle
— a set of darts for darts
— a cooling-heating ankle wrap
— a phone case
— straps for smartwatches
— a kit for window tinting
Most items appeared new or opened but unused.
Whether the purchase justifies itself is a debatable question. On one hand, among the finds, there are quite useful items. On the other hand, it is a random assortment of accessories that many would likely not buy separately.
