Gdynia City Theatre opens summer stage by the sea: performances in Orłowo and aboard the «Dar Pomorza»

During the summer holidays, Teatr Miejski in Gdynia steps outside its building — performances will take place outdoors and aboard the legendary «Dar Pomorza». The main stage will traditionally be located on the beach in Orłowo. Shows with the sea in the background can be watched from June 28 to August 17.

The season will kick off with the premiere of «Batory. Transatlantic love story» directed by Michał Walczak. One of Poland’s most renowned playwrights and directors will take the audience on a wild journey — filled with music, absurdity, irony, and the atmosphere of a night voyage where everything can spiral out of control. It’s a story about dreams of distant travels, summer fantasies, and adventures that linger in memory for a long time.

The program also includes audience favorites: comedies by Rafał Shumski «Na Ziemię!» and «Na Waleta», perfectly suited for summer evenings in Orłowo, as well as «Bóg mordu» and «Osieckiej. Archipelagów».

The summer theater in Gdynia lives in two rhythms — beach and ship. The first leads to Orłowo, the second — under the deck of the «Dar Pomorza». In the year of the city’s centenary, as part of the «100 na 100» program, this part of the repertoire takes on special significance: the ship becomes not just a stage, but a part of the theatrical narrative about Gdynia.

The program includes performances «Żeglarz» and «Jądro ciemności» directed by Krzysztof Babicki, as well as «Tango – na pełnym morzu». Black humor, comedic energy, and vibrant characters in multi-layered roles. The cult play «Tango» by Sławomir Mrożek is complemented by the one-act play «Na pełnym morzu».

On select weekends, family readings prepared by the theater’s actors will take place for children and their parents.
