The study by the portal «Gdansknazadanie» compared actual trips around the city — not just the journey itself, but also the total time «from door to door»: how long it takes to walk to the stop, wait for transport, make transfers, and continue traveling. A total of over 2,000 points in the city and 20 directions were analyzed — work, education, services, and leisure.
The results of the analysis were unequivocal. The median public transport journey took 54 minutes. For cars, it was 27 minutes. As a result, the median value of the CTI index for the entire Gdańsk reached a level of 1.98. This means that for a typical city resident, the daily journey by public transport now takes about twice as long as a journey by car.
According to the authors of the analysis, this means not just a weak urban transport system, but a complete loss of the ability to function effectively without a car
The authors of the study point out that the problem affects not only the most remote areas. Approximately 35% of residents live in areas where a trip by public transport takes more than twice as long as by car. In some places, the difference is even greater — three times or more.
As a result, residents of the same city find themselves in unequal conditions: some spend almost an hour more on the road each day than others, simply due to the choice or necessity of using public transport
