Sylwia C., a Gdańsk councilor from the «Civic Coalition,» wants to resolve the conflict with the taxi driver. This is a consequence of a scandal in which the official insulted a man from Ukraine (their argument was recorded by a dashcam in the victim’s car). As a result, Sylwia C. has been charged by the prosecutor’s office, which she has denied.
Let us remind you: the portal Trojmiasto.pl was the first to publish the dashcam recording from the taxi, in which councilor Sylwia C. was traveling with children to a Lechia Gdańsk match. She was particularly outraged that the foreign driver wanted to drop her off not directly at the stadium, but in a parking lot near Amber Expo.
— If you don’t know your way around, then you should, f**k, go back to your country. Not, f**k, be in a country whose language you don’t know and don’t understand how to get around, — Sylwia C. told the driver.
In the video, you can hear Cison talking to the driver, and the man responds calmly to her remarks in Polish.
The councilor tried to justify herself on social media, posting a photo from the hospital with an IV drip and stating that the taxi driver first picked her up in an inappropriate place and then dropped her off where it wasn’t necessary. According to Cison, he poorly understood Polish, and after her remark, he got angry, started swearing, tried to spit on her, and sprayed her with tear gas. Additionally, she claimed that the driver took out a canister of gasoline and sprayed it in her face.
Criminal charges have been brought against the councilor
The case of the councilor and the taxi driver first went to the police, then to the prosecutor's office
Sylwia C. claimed that the taxi driver violated her bodily integrity, and in September, the police accepted her corresponding statement. In turn, the taxi driver filed a complaint about insults based on nationality, violation of his bodily integrity, and damage to the vehicle.
Ultimately, the authorities reviewing the case decided to focus solely on the taxi driver’s complaint, which led to charges being brought against the councilor.
On November 19, 2025, the prosecutor’s office charged Sylwia C. with two counts: for insult using obscene language (Article 216 §1 of the Penal Code) and for violation of bodily integrity (Article 217 §1 of the Penal Code). The charges did not pertain to insults based on nationality, the Gdańsk prosecutor’s office clarified.
On December 16, the Gdańsk-Oliwa prosecutor’s office officially read the charges to her and interrogated her as a suspect.
Sylwia C. did not admit guilt and exercised her right to refuse to testify.
The case has been referred to mediation. The mediation should be completed by the end of May 2026. Further procedural actions regarding the case will depend on its results.
