Sylwia C., a Gdańsk councilor from the «Civic Coalition,» wants to resolve the conflict with the taxi driver. This is a consequence of the scandal in which the official insulted a man from Ukraine (their argument was recorded by the dashcam in the victim’s car). As a result, Sylwia C. has been charged by the prosecutor’s office, which she has denied.
Let us remind you: the portal Trojmiasto.pl was the first to publish a dashcam recording from a taxi, in which the deputy Sylwia C. was traveling with children to a match of Lechia Gdańsk. She was particularly outraged that the foreign driver wanted to drop her off not directly at the stadium, but in the parking lot next to Amber Expo.
— If you don’t know your way around, then you should, damn it, go back to your country. You shouldn’t, damn it, be in a country where you don’t know the language and don’t understand how to get around, — said the driver Silvia C.
In the video, you can hear Cisów talking to the driver, and the man responds freely in Polish, calmly addressing her remarks.
The deputy tried to justify herself on social media, posting a photo from the hospital with an IV drip and stating that the taxi driver first picked her up in an inappropriate place and then dropped her off not where she needed to be. According to Cisów, he poorly understood Polish, and after her remark, he got angry, started cursing, tried to spit on her, and sprayed tear gas. Additionally, she claimed that the driver took out a canister of gasoline and sprayed it in her face.
Wobec wiceprzewodniczącego wszczęto postępowanie karne
The case of the deputy and the taxi driver first went to the police, then to the prosecutor's office
As a result, the authorities reviewing the case decided to focus solely on the taxi driver's statement, which led to charges being brought against the deputy
On November 19, 2025, the prosecutor’s office charged Sylwia C. with two offenses: insulting with the use of vulgar language (Article 216 §1 of the Penal Code) and violating bodily integrity (Article 217 §1 of the Penal Code). The charges did not pertain to insults based on national grounds, clarified the prosecutor’s office in Gdańsk.
On December 16, at the Gdańsk-Oliwa prosecutor's office, she was officially presented with the charges and interrogated as a suspect
Sylwia C. did not admit guilt and exercised her right to refuse to testify
The case has been referred for mediation. The mediation is expected to conclude by the end of May 2026. Further procedural actions regarding the case will depend on its outcomes.
