The captain of the vessel where hantavirus cases were detected will be taken to a hospital in Gdynia

The Polish captain of the MV Hondius, on board which cases of hantavirus infection were recorded, is returning to the country. He will be hospitalized at the University Center of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia.

— We are ready for this procedure. If it takes place, transportation will be carried out by ground medical transport. The captain is healthy, three consecutive tests have ruled out the presence of the virus in his body, — noted the Chief Sanitary Inspector of Poland, Paweł Gzreszewski.

The World Health Organization reported on May 3 about the death of three people on the cruise ship Hondius, which set sail from southern Argentina in early April for a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. A dangerous Andean strain of the virus was detected on board. On May 10, the ship arrived in Tenerife, where passengers were evacuated. On May 18, it reached Rotterdam, now only with crew members.
