Mobile phones will be banned in schools in Poland. The new rules will come into effect on September 1

Prezydent Polski, Karol Nawrocki, podpisał ustawę, która zabrania uczniom korzystania z telefonów komórkowych i innych urządzeń elektronicznych. Nowe przepisy wejdą w życie 1 września 2026 roku.

The ban will be in effect during lessons, during breaks, and during other activities. It also applies to activities outside of school — for example, physical education classes on sports fields.

The rules will apply to students of public and private primary schools. Phones will not be allowed to be used not only for calls but also for shooting, recording sound, and other forms of communication.

Phones will be banned in kindergartens as well

Ograniczenia będą również dotyczyć przedszkoli i oddziałów przedszkolnych w szkołach. Dzieciom nie będzie wolno przynosić i używać urządzeń elektronicznych podczas zajęć i innych aktywności.

Exceptions are provided for.

The phone will be available for use:

  • for health reasons — for example, to manage a chronic illness
  • if the device is necessary due to a disability or special needs of the child
  • if the teacher allows it for conducting a lesson or testing knowledge
  • to urgently contact the parents;
  • in case of a threat to life or health.

Szkoły będą mogły tworzyć specjalne miejsca do przechowywania smartfonów. Jednocześnie personel nie powinien mieć możliwości przeglądania zawartości urządzeń bez zgody.

If a student violates the rules, the school will be able to impose a penalty as provided by its statute. The violation may also affect the behavior grade.

There will be no ban in high schools, technical schools, and post-secondary schools

The new law does not introduce a general ban on phones in lyceums, technical schools, and post-secondary schools. Each school will establish its own rules for smartphone usage. The educational institution may allow phones or completely prohibit them.
