The authorities of Sopot have announced that they will register same-sex marriages concluded abroad in Polish registers. The city is only waiting for the technical adaptation of the system to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Digitalization.
As emphasized by the Mayor of Sopot, Magdalena Czajkowska-Jachim, as soon as the possibility for systematic registration of such marriages arises, the procedure will be initiated.
— There are no formal statements yet, but inquiries from interested parties have already been received. We considered this possibility a year or two ago, but until now there has not been a comprehensive systemic solution that would allow for the registration of such marriages in the register, — she notes.
Previously, Polish authorities refused to transcribe same-sex marriages, citing family legislation. Changes became possible after the decisions of the EU Court and the Supreme Administrative Court.
