When a sworn translator is needed

A sworn translator is a specialist with an official license whose translations have legal validity in Poland. Their services are necessary when you submit foreign documents to government institutions: when applying for PESEL, residence card, marriage registration, citizenship applications, in court, to a notary, to ZUS, or a bank. Regular translation agencies cannot process such documents — a stamp and signature from a sworn translator are required.

How to choose a translator

• Original language. In Tricity, there are the most translators for Russian and Ukrainian, fewer for Belarusian and English.
• City. For submitting documents in person, it is convenient to choose a translator nearby; for electronic documents, this is less important.
• Registry number. The table shows a number in the format TP/…/… — this is the identifier in the Ministry of Justice registry, which can be used to verify the validity of the license on the website of the Ministry of Justice of Poland.
• Cost. Rates are regulated by the order of the Minister of Justice, but a translator can charge market prices for private individuals. On average, it ranges from 40 to 80 zlotys per standard page of translation (1125 characters).

Is it necessary to certify the translation with an apostille?

No. An apostille is placed on the original document in the country of issuance and confirms its authenticity. A translation performed by a sworn translator in Poland does not need to be certified with an apostille — the translator’s stamp already makes the document valid for Polish institutions.

Can a translation be done online?

Yes, many translators accept scanned documents via e-mail and send the certified translation by courier or in person. Some specialists also provide translations with a qualified electronic signature — such a translation is equivalent to a paper one.

How many days does a translation take?

The standard time is 1–3 working days for a document of up to 5 pages. An urgent translation on the same day costs more (usually +50–100% of the base rate). Agree on the deadline and price in advance: translators during peak migration waves may be booked 1–2 weeks ahead.

What to do if the required language is not on the list?

Not all languages are represented in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. If you need, for example, Korean or Georgian — look for sworn translators in neighboring voivodeships or in Warsaw through the general registry of the Ministry of Justice. A translation done by a sworn translator anywhere in Poland is valid throughout the country.
