At the beginning of April, work began in Gdynia to prepare the pier for the tourist season. However, during inspections, it was discovered that the facility is in significantly worse condition than expected and requires major repairs
The selection of a contractor and the actual work may take at least a year. The cost of the project is estimated at several million zlotys. The start of the repairs is planned for the fall.
Meanwhile, the rest of the pier remains open for walks.
— This section is safe, so there is no point in closing the entire pier in the middle of the season, — noted the spokesperson of the Gdynia City Hall, Tomasz Złotoś.
Authorities emphasize that the condition of the structure is constantly monitored. In the event of further deterioration, additional sections of the pier may also be closed.
